others. I'm making no money off of this
NOTE: I only saw Jurassic Park 3 once so I
don't remember Ellie’s married name or if they even said it. So I made up one
for her
Chapter One
*************
Alan breathed a sigh of relief as he
stumbled out of the trees towards the beach where the national guard had
assembled to take them home. "Thank you Ellie!" He said under his
breath. He couldn't believe that he had managed to survive again. As he
stumbled onto the helicopter, he was relieved to see that Billy was still
alive. He ran to him and kneeled down.
"Hi Doctor Grant" He said weakly.
Alan smiled at him. "We're going
home!" He said as he felt the helicopter lift off. He looked out the
window at Isla Sorna. It all looked so tranquil from the air. It was hard to
believe that for the last few days Billy, the Kirbys and he had spent hell on
earth there. Grant pursed his lips in anger. *Not to mention, more needless
deaths and injuries.* He thought. When he left Isla Nublar eight years ago, he
never imagined he'd have to go through it all again. He was glad Ellie wasn't
along this time, he had had enough trouble keeping Billy and the Kirbys safe
let alone her. He leaned back in his seat. It would be good to see Ellie again.
He really missed her. He was looking forward to getting back home and
forgetting all about these damn islands. At that moment he heard the pilots
yell as three pterodactyls flew past them. He figured they were going to
another nesting ground. He hoped wherever they decided to nest was unoccupied.
As he watched the three dactyls soar into the clouds, he sighed and closed his
eyes. At last he could really sleep.
As the helicopters flew into the skies a
hand parted the foliage. A pair of eyes stared up at the tiny black dots flying
towards the horizon. With a hiss, the eyes disappeared into the forest...
*********
"Alan!" Ellie flew out of her
house and into Alan's arms. "Thank God! I was so worried about you!"
She said as she hugged him tightly.
Alan laughed as he held her tightly.
"Hey! I had plenty of experience, you know!" He said teasingly
. As Ellie opened the door, her two kids
flew at Alan's legs and squeezed them as hard as they could. Alan grimaced and
looked at Ellie. "Oh yeah, these two!" He said.
"C'mon kids leave the dinosaur man
alone!" She said as she pried them off of his legs. "Let me get you
something to eat" signaling towards the kitchen.
Grant smiled as he followed her. As he
watched her walk into the kitchen, he stared at her butt. He had really missed
her the past few days!
As he ate the grilled cheese Ellie had
cooked, he glanced down at his scars and thanked God that he had live through
another ordeal. When he became a paleontologist, he never imagined that one day
he would have to outrun the real thing. As he munched on his sandwich, he
breathed a sigh of relief, happy that he would never have to go back to the
island.
************
In the darkness of the abandoned laboratory,
a figure flipped through some files on the history of Jurassic Park. He smiled
as he found the file he was looking for. Opening it up, he glanced through the
information on Alan Grant and Ellie Sattler The figure grinned as he read
through their personal statistics. Even after they had left Jurassic Park in
1993, the people who had worked at INGEN had kept updated files on them in the
hopes of someday persuading them to come back and give their endorsement to a
new improved park. The general consensus among the staff had been that John
Hammond had jumped the gun and allowed people to see the park before everything
had been fine tuned, checked and double checked. The figure shook his head. *As
if the fools at INGEN could do any better!" He thought chuckling to himself.
He grinned as he saw where they had penciled in the current address of Ellie
Sattler. Under her phone number was the name of a small airport near Ellie that
the INGEN techs could have called if they needed to schedule a flight out to
meet her and Grant. The figure smiled. *Perfect!* he thought. *Just what I need
to set my plan in motion!* Pushing aside a bunch of old papers and debris on
the desk, he found the only phone that still worked and dialed the number
besides Ellies address.
*************
"I'll get it!" Ellie said as she
got up from the kitchen table. She picked up the phone as Grant continued to
munch on his grilled cheese. "Hello?"
The figure cleared his throat. "Doctor
Ellie Sattler?" he spoke in a raspy voice.
"Yes, but Sattler is my maiden name
now. I'm married. It's Ellie Richards now."
"Oh, I'm so sorry..." The figure
glanced down at the files. There was no record of her being married. Either
they didn't record it, which was unlikely or the marriage happened after the
lab had been deserted.
"I represent Doctor Hammond," He
said. " Some of his archaeologists found a group of fossilized plants
intact. They have no paleobotanists with them however, and he wishes you to fly
to the site to lend them your expertise. All expenses paid, of course and you
will be paid generously for your services in addition to that. He has offered
to contact the airport nearest you and arrange the flight. He wants you to
leave as soon as possible. Will you take the job?"
Ellie blinked in surprise. She glanced over
at Alan who stopped chewing and looked back at her quizzically. "Who is
it?" He mouthed.
Ellie held up her hand and turned her
attention back to the phone. " I'm not sure that's a good idea, My husband
is away on business and I don't want to leave my children alone."
The figure rolled his eyes *Children,
too?" He thought.
"Um...Is there someone you could get to
look after your children? It's very important that you come. Doctor Hammond has
insisted on you. It will be a day, maximum, and you will be paid for your
trouble. Are you sure there is no one to watch your children?"
Ellie looked at Alan, who had stopped eating
altogether and was listening to the conversation.
"I might be able to get someone"
"Excellent!" The figure boomed.
"I'll give you all the information you need then. The plane leaves at
midnight." With a smirk, he gave Ellie the location of the airport and the
flight number. After he had given her all the necessary information, he bid her
goodbye and hung up. With a triumphant laugh, he dialed the number for the
airport.
Ellie turned to Alan who smiled at her.
Noticing the nervous look, he cleared his throat. "What's wrong?"
Ellie sighed "Can you do a huge favor
for me?"
***********
Chapter 2
Ellie sighed as she looked out the plane
window. She had hated to ask Alan to baby-sit her children. But, this
dig sounded important and she was anxious to
get out in the field again after so long. Her husband had frowned on her being
a paleobotanist. He thought it was unseemly for a woman to be digging around in
the dirt all day. Ellie rolled her eyes. Mark was sweet, but very old
fashioned. He pictured her more as a homemaker than a career woman. With Alan,
it was different. He respected and admired her for wanting to get her hands
dirty. But, for some reason, he had refused her when she finally proposed.
Ellie pursed her lips. All these years Alan had never really said why he
wouldn't marry her. She chalked it up to his unwillingness to have children,
but she couldn't be sure. She had tried a couple of times to bring up the
subject, but Alan just started talking about something else. After awhile she
had just given up. Alan was stubborn and she knew no matter how much she
begged, he would never tell her his reasons unless he wanted to.
Ellie sighed deeply. She still loved him
deeply and she swore that sometimes when he thought she wasn't looking he got a
look in his eyes that told her he still loved her just as deeply too. She
thought that Alan felt threatened by Mark and that's why he would look away
when she caught him looking at him. She sometimes caught Alan looking at Mark
with a jealous look in his eyes that she had seen before whenever Ian would get
too close to her. Ellie grinned. She loved that Alan cared enough to be that
protective of her. She wondered if Mark would ever do the same.
She lay back in her seat and sighed. She
wondered how long it would take to get to the site. The representative of
Hammond had arranged everything for her, so really all she had to do was get on
the plane. she yawned and blinked her eyes as her lids became heavy. Laying her
head on her shoulder, she slipped into dreamland.
************
Alan leaned back on the couch in Ellie's
living room. He was exhausted from playing with the children. He had finally
managed to get them fed and bathed and put into bed. Turning on the television,
he settled in and relaxed. He admired Ellie even more now. He couldn't believe
how much work went into taking care of the kids. Getting Lex and Tim through
Jurassic Park was a walk in the park compared to her two little boys. Grant
smiled. He hadn't thought of Lex and Tim in years, he wondered how they were
doing.
Alan half closed his eyes and let the
droning of the TV send him into a relaxed state. His mind drifted to Ellie. He
hoped she was okay. He knew she was embarrassed to ask him to baby-sit the
children, but he had seen the excitement in her eyes at being able to get out
in the field again and he knew he couldn't deny her. He just wondered why she
had to leave at Midnight. It seemed kinda odd that they could only get a flight
that late at night.
At that moment, the phone in the kitchen
rang jolting him out of sleepiness. Glancing at his watch, he saw that it was
three in the morning. *Who the hell would be calling at this hour?* He thought.
He walked to the phone and picked up the receiver. "Hello?"
"Grant?"
Alan blinked as he recognized the voice of
John Hammond. What did he want? He prayed that nothing had happened to Ellie's
airplane
"John?"
"I didn't know you would be there. I
thought Ellie was married."
Alan pursed his lips "She is, but I
agreed to watch her kids since her husband is out of town at the moment"
"Oh, I was just calling her to ask
about you actually. I heard what happened on Isla Sorna and I wanted to know if
she knew anything"
Alan blinked "At three in the
morning?"
"I couldn't get to sleep" Hammond
replied sheepishly. "I just wanted to talk to old friends. Where is she,
by the way?"
Alan was taken aback "What do you mean,
Where is she?. You sent her off to that dig site."
"Dig site? What dig site? I haven't
talked to Ellie in five years."
Alan began to get a sickening feeling in the
pit of his stomach.
"Someone called here earlier claiming
that they represented you, and asked Ellie to go to one of your dig sites to
look at some plant samples. Alan said slowly.
"Doctor Grant, I assure you. It wasn't
any of my people. I have no dig sites going on at the moment." Hammond
said in a worried tone. "Did they say where the site was?"
Alan shook his head " No, no...They
told her that everything had been taken care of and all she had to do was show
up." He fought to keep himself from puking. He wondered what the hell
Ellie had gotten herself into.
"Doctor Grant, give me the name of the
airport she left from, I'll make some calls and find out the destination of her
plane. What time did the plane leave?"
"Midnight" Grant said.
"Okay, hang up and let me check. I'll
get back to you!"
Grant nodded and hung up. He looked over at
the emergency phone numbers and found Ellie's cell phone number. He dialed the
number. No response. He figured Ellie had the cell turned off so she could
sleep. Sighing, He walked to the kitchen table and sat down. He put his head in
his hands and waited for Hammond to call.
************
It seemed like hours before the phone rang
again. Alan quickly ran to the phone and picked it up.
"Grant" Hammond said grimly.
"Did you find out where she was
going?"
"Aye, I think you better find someone
else to baby-sit the kids, I think Ellie needs your help."
Grant was filled with dread "Why?
What's wrong? Where is she going?"
Hammond pause and then spoke quietly.
"Isla Sorna"
Chapter 3
***********
Grant hung up the phone and stumbled to the
kitchen chair. He felt all the blood drain from his face as he thought of Ellie
going to Isla Sorna. He wondered who would put her in danger and for what
purpose. He pictured her running through the jungle, screaming and being
pursued by a huge spinosaur. He felt his stomach churn at the thought. Tears
flowed from his eyes as he stumbled back to the emergency numbers. Finding the
number for Ellie's parents, he dialed and waited for someone to answer the
phone. Finally Ellie's mother answered the phone.
"Hello?" she said sleepily.
"Alan steeled himself for the anger to
come. "Um...Hello, Mrs. Sattler. I need to ask you a favor!"
**********
Ellie yawned and stretched. The sun steamed
into the airplane window as it rose above the horizon. She couldn't believe
they were still airborne.
*How far is this site?* she thought.
She looked out the window and was surprised
to see they were flying over the ocean. She stared out the window, confused.
Was the site overseas?
She got up out of her seat and walked up to
the cockpit. Knocking on the door, she heard a faint voice saying "Come
in" Ellie walked in and noticed that there was only one person flying the
plane. She wondered where the co-pilot was.
The pilot turned and looked at her.
"Can I help you?"
"Yes, " Ellie said. "Where
are we going?"
The pilot shrugged. "I'm not entirely
sure, Ma'am"
Ellie was taken aback "Not sure? You
don't know where I'm going?"
The pilot shook his head " All I was
given was a set of coordinates. I was told to fly you there. Before I could ask
the name of the location, they hung up. Anyway, We're almost there. I'm sure
you can find someone to answer your questions as soon as we land." He
pointed back towards the cabin "Now if you would be so kind as to sit back
down and fasten your seatbelt, please?"
Ellie nodded, shut the door and walked back
to her seat. She fastened her seatbelt and prepared for the landing. She
wondered why all the secrecy? Was Hammond conducting a dig at a secret site?
She hoped he wasn't trying to create another Jurassic Park and she had been sent
to help. If that was what was happening, she wanted no part of it. She would
just tell the pilot to fly her back and then she would give Hammond a piece of
her mind, personally.
She felt the plane begin to lower and she
braced herself for the first bump when the plane hit the ground. After a few
minutes, she heard the thump as they landed on the ground. She looked out and
noticed that there was jungle all around them. Ellie gulped. She had a feeling
she was right about the site. She felt anger boiling to the surface. Hammond
had tricked her! She thought he had quit for good after Lex and Tim were nearly
killed. Apparently, the lure of money made him change his mind.
As the plane rolled to a stop, Ellie
unbuckled her seat belt and walked to the door. She waited as the pilot
unlocked it and they both stepped down onto the runway. Ellie looked around for
any sign of life.
"Hello?" She called.
Ellie frowned as the only answer was the
chirping of birds. She suddenly remembered her cell phone in her purse. She
turned it on and dialed her house. She frowned as the phone rang and rang.
*Where are you, Alan?* she thought. She disconnected and was surprised when the
phone rang almost immediately.
"Hello?" she said.
"Ellie! Thank God, I finally got
through!" Alan said.
"Alan? Where are you? I tried to call
the house and no one answered!"
"I know! I'm on an airplane heading for
you. Are you still in the air?"
"No, we just landed. Alan, I think
Hammond tricked me. I'm on an island. I have a feeling he wants to build another
park!"
"No Ellie! That's not it! Hammond
called me last night. He has nothing to do with this. Someone called
impersonating his assistant. Ellie....You're on Isla Sorna"
Ellie's eyes widened in fear. "Are you
sure?" She said with a tremor in her voice. She began to scan the area for
dinosaurs.
"Yes, I'm sure! Hammond checked the
flight destination and someone worked out that the coordinates they gave the
pilot are the coordinates for Isla Sorna."
Ellie closed her eyes in dread. She hoped
that Alan wasn't too far away. "Alan, I'm scared" she admitted.
"Don't worry Ellie, just stay near the
airplane. I think you'll be okay until we get there."
"I hope so, Al..." She jumped as
she heard the pilot behind her gasp. She turned around and saw with horror that
the pilot was sprawled out, unconscious, on the runway. A tranquilizer dart was
sticking out of his neck. "Alan!" She said frantically into the phone
"Alan, someone just shot the pilot with a tranquilizing dart. He's out
cold! I...." Ellie shuddered as a dart shot out of the foliage and landed
in the side of her neck. Falling to her knees, she felt the world around her
going dark.
"Alan" She whispered as she sank
into unconsciousness.
"Ellie? Ellie?" Grant said
frantically. "Ellie? Are you okay?" All of a sudden, he heard a sound
over the phone that he dreaded above all else. In the background, he could hear
the distinct chirping of raptors. Then he heard a crunch as the cell went dead.
*Oh God, NO!* He thought.
************
From the doorway of the lab, the figure
watched as the raptors dragged Ellie towards a cage beside the building. He
walked towards the cage and unlocked the door. The raptor dragged Ellie into
the center of the cage and dropped her with a thud. The figure smiled as the
raptor looked at him expectantly.
"This way, my pet!" He cooed.
The raptor obediently walked out of the cage
and the figure closed the door and locked it. He stared for a moment at the unconscious
form and with an evil chuckle, he walked back into the lab.
"Soon, the fun will begin!" He
said to himself as the raptors took up positions around the building and the
cage.
"All I need now is Doctor Grant and I
can begin my experiments. I have a feeling he will be joining us shortly"
His laugh roared through the jungle like a tidal wave before becoming silent
once more.
***********
Ellie slowly opened her eyes. It took a
moment for her to adjust to the daylight. When her vision finally cleared. She
gasped in horror. She was in a cage beside a dull gray building. The worst part
though, was there was a raptor at the door of the cage staring at her with a thoughtful
expression on it's face. She looked around for the pilot, but he was nowhere to
be seen. She hoped he wasn't dead. She hoped that Alan wasn't dead either. As
she backed up to the back of the cage, the raptor tilted his head to the side
and chirped quietly. She looked behind her and saw more raptors standing around
the building. It looked to Ellie like they were standing guard. She shook her
head.
*I must be dreaming!* She thought. *I can't
be here on this island, in a cage surrounded by raptors. It has to be a
nightmare* She pinched herself hard on the arm. Wincing at the pain, she
realized that it was all too real. She was a prisoner on Isla Sorna being
guarded by raptors. It sounded like something her and Alan would have thought
of in their younger days when they teased each other with silly stories to ward
off the boredom on long digs. But that was before Jurassic Park made it all a
reality. Now, Alan was probably the only chance she had left to escape this
hell.
As she wondered if there was anyway to
distract the raptors long enough to unlock the cage door, she felt a sharp pain
in the back of her neck. She reached behind to find another dart. *Oh God*
Ellie thought weakly as she began to fall into unconsciousness again. Before
the darkness completely overtook her, she thought she could make out somebody
at the door of the building, watching her. With a sigh, she slipped into the
blackness.
***********
As Ellie opened her eyes she noticed that
she was strapped down to a lab table in an old abandoned lab. She tried to free
herself from the straps but she couldn't even budge them.
"It's no use, my dear. I've tied them tight.”
A voice said behind her. "Now all we have to do is wait for Doctor Grant
to arrive and we can begin."
"Who are you?" Ellie said as
bravely as she could. She tried to turn around and see behind her, but a strap
was holding her neck down and she could only look to the sides.
"Since you cannot see me, I shall show
you who I am!" The voice said as he stepped in front of the table.
Ellie’s eyes widened in horror as she saw
that the voice belonged to a raptor. But the raptor was different than the
other raptors, he was human-like. He grinned as Ellie's scream echoed through
the lab...
Chapter 4
**********
Ellie's head throbbed as she came awake. She
remembered fainting from the shock of seeing the raptor man. She noticed that
her vision was still a bit blurred. She saw the vague outline of an IV in her
arm and she surmised that it must be filled with some kind of narcotic to keep
her from escaping. She had no idea how long she had been out but judging from
the shadows in the lab and the dimming sunlight outside, she thought it had to
be at least two hours, maybe more. She hoped that Alan hadn't been captured in
that time. As far as she could tell from looking around she was all alone.
Somewhere, behind her, she could hear the raptors chirping to one another. She
wondered if she would become a snack for them eventually.
She turned her neck as she heard a door open
and close. Through her drug induced haze, she could make out the raptor man
fiddling with something at a desk. He turned briefly to her for a moment and
she thought she could make out a sneer as he walked back through the door. The
sound of the door slamming was like a sledgehammer on her head and she winced
in pain. She began to think of all the people whom she loved. Mark, Her kids,
Alan.... She feared she would never see them again.
Tears fell from her eyes as she listened to
the incessant chattering of the raptors. Then, her ears perked up as she heard
a different raptor call. It seemed like it was further away from the others.
She wondered if other raptors were coming back to the lab after a day of
hunting. But, judging from the skittish sounds of the raptors outside, this new
raptor was a stranger to them. She breathed a sigh of relief as she heard them
moving away to investigate the newcomer. At least they wouldn't be in the lab
threatening her. She closed her eyes and listened as the raptors searched the
bush, chittering in frustration.
her eyes fluttered open in terror as she
heard someone moving by her side.
*Oh my God, It's come back* She thought
"Ellie?"
Ellie's eyes snapped open and she saw a
blurry figure looking down on her.
"Alan?" Ellie said groggily
She heard Alan curse softly. She felt so
sorry for him seeing her like this. She knew it was tearing him up inside with
guilt for not being there for her. Her breath caught in her throat as she
remembered the raptors and how agitated they had been. If they came in here...
"Alan, the raptors..." She began
Alan nodded and leaned down to Ellie's ear
so she could make out what he was saying.
"I took care of them with my little
raptor call."
Ellie's brow furrowed in confusion.
"Raptor call?" She said slowly.
She squinted as she watched Alan pulled a
small white object out of his pocket. He brought it closer to her face so she
could see it better.
"It's a replication of a raptors
frontal lobe." He said softly in her ear." When you blow on it, it'll
reproduce the sounds a raptor makes. that's how I was able to lure them
away!" He grinned. "Billy and I made it."
Ellie nodded. She was so grateful that Alan
had that with him. Maybe they had a chance of getting off the island after all.
unless...
"Alan," Ellie said groggily.
"There's a raptor man. he's somewhere in the building. You need
to..."
Her eyes widened as she saw a dark form
rising up behind Alan. She screamed in horror as she saw the raptor man hitting
Alan with something. She sobbed as she heard Alan's body fall to the floor with
a heavy thud.
She jerked her head as the raptor began to
stroke her head.
"Don't cry, my dear." He hissed.
"I'm not going to kill him, I have plans for both of you! You see, you and
Doctor. Grant are going to help me create a master race of raptors. With your
help, the raptor race will once again become the dominate species on this
planet and your pitiful species will be reduced to slaves."
"I'll never help you!" Ellie spat
out.
"Oh, I don't think you have a choice in
the matter, my dear." The raptor man leaned in close to her face.
"You see, I have you drugged so you cannot get away and even if you could,
well...I don't think you would want Doctor Grant to suffer in any way, would
you?"
Ellie's eyes widened and she began to shake
her head back and forth as tears poured from her eyes.
The raptor man grinned smugly.
"I didn't think so" he said.
"But, Why us?" Ellie said between
sobs.
"Why you?, Well...I need Doctor. Grant
because of his expertise on raptors. You see, the scientists left detailed
notes here but I need to know more. Doctor Grant is one of the leading
authorities on raptors, you know. If I'm going to create the master race, I
need to know all I can so there will be no mistakes."
"And me?" Ellie said softly
"You? why, my dear. You are going to
supply the womb..."
Part 5
Ellie stared at him, too stunned to speak.
She couldn't believe what she had just heard.
"You can't do this!" She cried.
"You can't play..."
"GOD?" The raptor hissed.
"Who are you to tell me not to play God? If it wasn't for your species
wanting to tinker with the natural order of things, I wouldn't be here! So
don't start preaching to me about playing God."
He leaned closer into Ellie's face.
"Perhaps if mankind had been smarter,
you wouldn't be here in this lab strapped to a table..."
As Ellie watched the raptor walked over to
some large tubes in the center of the room. In each tube was a dead embryo
raptor. Each tube held a raptor more developed than the last one. Sensors were
attached to each one at the head and neck. The raptor gestured to them...
"This is what INGEN was really working
on. That stupid theme park was just a front for their real operation.
Human/raptor hybrids. They wanted to try to combine the intelligence of raptors
with the intelligence of humans...if you can call it intelligence...to create a
super raptor!"
Ellie shook her head.
"But...why?" She said
"Slaves!" The raptor stared at her
intently. "They wanted to create a genetically altered 'pet'. Something
they could teach to serve man. They also wanted something they could perform
their lab tests on as well." He beat his fist against one of the tubes.
"We were meant to be nothing more than a slave race to a bunch of arrogant
primates! If isn't enough for your kind to enslave and torture your own. You
have to involve other species now too!"
He walked back to Ellie and stared down at
her with his cold calculating eyes....
"And paleontologists like Doctor
Grant....They go and dig up the bones of the dead and display them in museums
like fair attractions. My ancestors....my raptor brothers and sisters, are
nothing more than displays now to be gawked at by semi intelligent primates.
And yet, if I were to go into your graveyards and dig up the bones of your dead
and display them in museums, you would have a problem with that!"
The raptor narrowed his eyes....
"Well...mankind's brief, violent and
insignificant reign is going to end soon. I am going to finish INGEN's
work...only, the humans will be the ones who are going to be the slaves and the
lab experiments."
He walked over to a desk in the corner and
picked up a battered bible. He brought it back to Ellie and waved it in her
face.
"Interesting reading, I must say."
He hissed. "One of the scientists left it behind. Pretty ironic for him to
have it, don't you think?"
He thumbed through it.
"Most of it is boring and long winded.
It seems your species has a talent for stating things in a roundabout
way.".
He turned the book around and showed Ellie a
picture of Adam naming the animals.
This is what truly fascinated me though. The
story of the first male and female humans. It's interesting that God chose to
walk with your kind in the beginning. But even then you chose to ignore him,
and you were denied paradise because your kind had the same problem it has
now...you think you are better than God."
The raptor walked back over to the table and
sat the bible down. He turned to face Ellie...
"The scientists never gave me a name. I
guess they thought I wasn't important enough to warrent one. After reading
through this bible though, I decided to call myself Adam, because after all I'm
the first raptor of my kind in the world. And like Adam, I shall be fruitful
and multiply!"
He walked to Ellie and stared at her torso.
"And you shall be Eve. The first mother
of the new raptor race!"
Ellie felt her stomach turn in a knot at
that. She was repulsed by the thought of a raptor embryo growing inside of her.
She glanced off the side of the table to see that Alan was lying on the floor
beside her, still out.
Adam noticed her staring over the edge and
went around the table...
"Oh yes! I almost forgot about him.
Thank you for reminding me my dear!"
He picked Alan up by the back of his shirt
and began to drag him back into the lab.
"What are you going to do to him?"
Ellie cried out.
Adam smiled at her.
"Don't worry about Doctor Grant. I'm
only going to put him in a cage for the moment while I make the beginning
preparations for the embryo transplant. "
Ellie watched as Adam dragged Alan out of
the room. She closed her eyes and tried to hold back her tears. She wished that
she had never came. Now she was going to be nothing more than an incubator. As
she heard a far away cage door slam. She let the tears flow from her cheeks....
Part 6
Alan came to....
He saw that he had been dumped in a cage. He
vaguely remembered being dragged away from Ellie and a fuzzy image of a door
closing as the somebody stared at him before leaving him alone. He had passed
out after that. Now that he could see clearly he saw that he was near the point
where the raptor had attacked them before when he was here with the Kirbys. He
listened as he heard someone in the main lab moving around. He hoped that Ellie
was alright. Looking towards the door, he noticed it had a huge padlock on it.
He scrambled to his feet and walked to the door. He began to examine the lock.
He studied it for a moment, thinking.
Suddenly he got an idea. He figured out that it was the type that was opened
with a key. He reached into his pants pocket and thanked God when he found his pocketknife.
Pulling out the blade he positioned it against the back of the lock and began
to push forward with all his might. He watched as the lock was flung upside
down against the door and slammed back down against the door with a small
clang. He froze and listened afraid someone would hear him and come to
investigate. After a few moments he still heard nothing but the noise of the person
in the lab. Satisfied he was okay, he began to work on the lock again. He
muttered curses as each time the lock flew up he failed to grab it though the
honeycombed openings of the cage door. After the forth attempt, he managed to
grab it just in time. Holding it steady with the tips of his fingers, he stuck
the blade into the keyhole and began to pick the lock. Glancing nervously
towards the lab, he worked the blade around inside the lock. After about ten
minutes, Grant sighed when he heard the faint click of the lock opening. With a
triumphant grin, he used his fingers and the knife blade to work the lock off
of the gate. As it hit the floor, Grant froze again and listened. But again, no
sounds of anyone rushing to stop him.
Tiptoeing to the entrance, he pressed
himself against the wall for a few minutes before tentatively looking around
the corner. He saw that Ellie was still strapped to the lab table, a terrified
look on her face as she watched....
Alan drew in his breath as he noticed the
man moving around the lab. If you could call it a man. He stared with wide eyes
as he saw that this being seemed to be a human/raptor hybrid.
*Oh my God, just what had those bastards at
INGEN been doing?* he thought grimly
He looked around and spied a metal pipe lying
up against the wall. Crouching down, he quickly scrambled to the pipe as the
raptor man's back was turned. He reached the pipe just as he turned back
around. Breathing a soft sigh of relief, he grabbed the metal pipe in one hand
and began to advance slowly towards the beast who was busying himself studying
charts and gathering together lab equipment. He looked over to see that Ellie
hadn't seen him, her attention focused completely on the raptor man. He bided
his time until he had turned with his back to Grant. Seeing his chance, he
rushed out and slammed the metal pipe down on top of his head watching as the
raptor man slumped to the ground unconscious.
He turned and ran to Ellie’s side. He smiled
at her as she looked at him with a grateful look in her eyes.
"I was so scared for you, Alan."
She said softly
"Same here, El" Grant said as he
loosened the straps.
Helping Ellie to her feet, she steadied her
as she stood up and swayed uneasily. After a few moments, she got her bearings
and smiled at Grant to let him know she was alright.
Grant looked around and spied a bottle of
whiskey sitting on one of the technicians desks. An idea came to him and he
walked to the desk. Grabbing the bottle he pulled a handkerchief out of his
back pocket and shoved it down the neck of the whiskey bottle leaving a little
hanging out of the top. He ran towards the supply cabinet and opened it
frantically searching. He breathed a sigh of relief when he found some
matchbooks in among the supplies. Motioning Ellie towards the door. He lit the
top of his Molotov cocktail and flung it at the far wall. He watched for a
moment as a wall of flame erupted and then he ran towards the door pushing
Ellie in front of him. Reaching the door, they paused as the saw there were
still a few raptors on guard. Pulling out his raptor call, he quickly blew out
the call for help. The raptors perked up at the sound and all of them hurried
into the woods looking for the raptor who was in trouble. Grinning at Ellie,
they ran out into the woods as the lab began to burn....
Part 7
Grant and Ellie ran through the dense
jungle. They had been trying to find the way back to the runway and the
airplanes. Grant had a vague idea in which direction they should be heading,
but without a compass he couldn't be sure. The other problem was the jungle was
filled with dinosaurs of every species. some with the ability to conceal
themselves effectively in the brush. They ran as fast as they could wanting to
put as much distance between them and the lab but at the same time they were
trying to be aware of everything around them...
Suddenly they stopped and crouched low. They
gulped as they felt an impact tremor beneath their feet. They got as low to the
ground as they could as they saw a spinosaurus pass by in the clearing before
them. Ellie had never seen one in person, she had only heard the stories from
Alan. She couldn't believe the size of it. It was nearly the size of two
tyrannosaurs. She tried to steady her breathing as the spinosaur paused to
sniff the air. It seemed to sense them but judging from it's behavior, Ellie
thought it was trying to determine for sure if they were there and how big a
threat they were to it. Not that they posed any threat. She felt it could
probably swallow them both whole in two big gulps. Her eyes widened as she saw
it move closer to them, sniffing the ground now as well as the air. She began
to breathe faster as the spinosaur got closer. She felt a squeeze on her hand and
she looked over to see Alan putting a finger to his lips and winking at her.
Ellie nodded and began to inhale and exhale softly trying to control her heart
rate.
The spinosaur moved closer to them. It was
now almost on top of them. Ellie watched as drool from it's mouth dripped on a
fallen log in front of her. The spinosaur wasn't looking at them, instead, it
was staring straight ahead back into the jungle. It grunted as if in thought
trying to decide if it wanted to go in or not. It picked up it's foot ready to
move ahead. Ellie's eyes widened as she saw that it was going to step right on
them. Her body tensed preparing for the worse.
Suddenly the spinosaur jerked it's head
around as a herd of gallimimusses ran across the clearing. The spinosaur put
it's foot back down and with a roar spun around and ran after the herd as Ellie
and Grant let out a gasp of air. They heard another roar and a squeal or pain
as the spinosaur found a victim.
Cautiously, Ellie and Grant stood up and
looked out at the clearing. The spinosaur was at the far end with his back to
them, hungrily feeding on the gallimimus's carcass. Running as fast as they
could without making any noise. Ellie and Grant ran across the clearing to the
jungle on the other side. Half expecting to have the spinosaur notice them
halfway across, they were relieved that he hadn't noticed them as he gorged
himself on the gallimimus.
They quickly hurried away in case the
spinosaur finished any time soon.
"Well Alan, I see you weren't kidding
about it's size." Ellie said between breaths.
Alan chuckled and looked back at Ellie.
"You sound worried there, El" He
teased.
"I'll just be glad to get back to the
plane and get off this island." she said.
"I just hope my pilot is still alive.
We'll need someone to pilot the plane." Grant said grimly.
"Hon, I'll pilot the plane myself if it
means getting off this island!"
Alan nodded as they both paused to catch
their breath. They noticed that they had stopped about 10 feet away from a
stream. Walking to it, they both bent down and gulped in the cool refreshing
water. As they were drinking they heard a huge boom. Looking up, they breathed
a sigh of relief as they noticed a brachiosaurus pause to get a drink further
downstream. Ellie and Grant watched in wonder. Even after all these years, a
sight like this filled them with awe. The brachiosaur finished drinking and as
it was raising it's head, it caught sight of Ellie and Grant. Pausing for a
moment, it leaned it's neck over until it's head was directly above them. It
stared at them curiously as Ellie and Grant rubbed it's snout. The brachiosaur
gave a snort as it decided they were not a threat and it lifted it's head high
into the sky and walked on. Ellie and Grant sat and watched it go smiling to
themselves as they saw the head bob high above the treetops.
"Now why can't all the dinosaurs be
like her?" Grant said pointing .
Ellie was about to reply when she caught
sight of some pterodactyls flying far above them. They quickly ran back into
the trees before they were spotted. Just as they reached the safety of the
trees, the pterodactyls swooped down and landed at the stream in front of them.
It seemed to be a family group with a male, female and baby. The male and
female drank side by side as the baby walked behind them squawking to itself
impatiently, eager to be flying again. As Ellie and Grant watched the baby
walked over to where they were hiding and peeked in at them chirping curiously.
Grant gritted his teeth as he saw the mother look over at the baby and squawk
at it, commanding it to come to her. The baby ignored it's mother and instead
hopped over into Ellies lap. Ellie held her breath as the baby tried to nip at
her fingers. She watched as the mother began to walk over to their hiding
place, squawking insistently. Just as it reached them, It gave one more loud
squawk and the baby reluctantly left Ellie's lap to rejoin it's mother. They
watched as the mother gave the baby a bop on the head with her beak for not
listening to her and all three of them took to the skies again.
Ellie and Grant looked at each other and
shook their heads.
"Jesus" Grant said. "What
else could happen?"
*************************************
Adam opened his eyes and looked at the
raptors gathered around him. He shook his head, dazed as the raptors chirped
with concern. He looked over and saw with rage that the laboratory was now an
inferno. He didn't know how he had made it out but he figured that one or more
of the raptors had pulled him out. He hissed in rage as he noticed two sets of
footprints imprinted in some mud near the jungle.
"So, they've escaped!" He said as
he stood up. "Well, they aren't going to get off this island, that's for
sure!"
He chirped out orders to the raptors around
him ordering them to begin searching for them and to inform other raptors to
join in the search. As he watched them run off into the jungle, Adam smiled....
"Let's see how far you get with the
entire raptor population at your heels!" He chuckled as he ran into the
jungle himself...
Part 8
For the better part of an hour, Grant and
Ellie had been running through the jungle trying to avoid getting killed as
they followed what they though was the correct direction to the airfield. Grant
felt himself growing more confident as he thought he began to recognize certain
oddly shaped trees that he had seen on the way to the laboratory...
"I don't think It'll be too much
longer, El." He said as he looked back at her.
"Good, my legs are killing me."
Ellie called back as she tried not to trip on the rocks and branches littering
the jungle floor.
Grant chuckled. His smile vanished though as
he thought about the pilot of the plane. He hoped he was still alive. He really
didn't feel like trying to fly himself and crashing in a big fireball with
Ellie didn't appeal to him especially after all they had gone through to reach
the plane.
Suddenly Grant's stomach turned as they
heard a familiar chirping. He and Ellie quickly fell to the ground as a raptor
appeared out of the brush a few feet away. Grant and Ellie held their breath as
four other raptors stepped out behind him. They began to fan out, searching all
over. Grant looked at Ellie who was watching each raptor as they sniffed the
air and turned over dead logs in their search...
"I'm gonna try something." He
mouthed to her.
Ellie nodded and watched as Grant pulled the
raptor call out of his pocket. Putting it to his lips, he sounded the signal
for help trying to make it sound as though the call was coming from far away.
He watched as all five raptors jerked their heads up and began to chirp to one
another, confused. Grant sounded the call again trying to make it sound more
urgent. All five raptors were now staring off into the jungle on Grant and
Ellie’s right, torn between staying to search and going to help their comrade.
Finally the lead raptor sounded a chirp to the other four and all of them
hurried off into the jungle. Grant and Ellie both exhaled sharply and grinned
at each other...
"Geez, How many close calls are we
gonna have today?" Ellie asked.
"Hopefully, that was the last."
Grant said as he got to his feet.
Helping Ellie to her feet. He stepped forward
and looked to the right trying to determine if all the raptors had gone. After
seeing the coast was clear, he motioned to Ellie and they quickly ran on...
Behind them, the five raptors stepped back
out from their hiding places. They looked at one another and the lead raptor
chirped an order to the raptor closest to him to go and get the others. After
the raptor had gone the other raptors headed in the direction that Grant and
Ellie had taken...
***************************
Grant and Ellie breathed a sigh of relief as
they stepped out of the jungle. Before them lay the airstrip with the plane
still intact. Looking left and right, they approached cautiously. Once they
reached the door of the airplane, Grant motioned Ellie to get behind him.
Taking a deep breath, he flung open the door and heard a terrified scream.
Looking inside, he saw the pilot hunched down on the floor of the plane holding
a shotgun in front of him. Seeing who it was, he lowered the gun and breathed a
sigh of relief...
"Oh...Doctor Grant, Thank God. Am I
glad to see you!"
Grant grinned.
"Likewise!" He said. "Are you
alright?"
The pilot nodded.
"Yes, I've been scared half to death though.
There's been some dinosaurs that have come sniffing around the plane, so I've
been keeping low so they won't see me. I've been living off the rations and the
only time I go out is to take a quick piss and then I've jumped back in
here." He looked at Grant with hope in his eyes. "Can we leave
now?"
Grant nodded.
"Yup, Ellie and I are ready to go,
believe me."
"Oh, you found her then?"
He smiled at Ellie as she appeared behind
Grant and waved at him.
"Ma'am" The pilot greeted her
politely.
"Well, Let's get a move on, then."
Grant said
"I think not!"
Grant and Ellie turned as Adam emerged from
the jungle. He grinned at their shocked faces.
"Thought you had gotten rid of me,
Doctor Grant?" He hissed. "You didn't count on me being rescued, did
you? I want you meet my family." He chirped shrilly and suddenly the
jungle behind him was filled with the deafening sound of chirping. Grant and
Ellie watched horrified as a multitude of raptors began pouring out onto the
airstrip. Grant estimated that there was close to a hundred raptors all eyeing
them hungrily.
"You ruined my plans, Doctor Grant. So,
as consolation, I'm going to let my brothers and sister have a little
feast."
He gave another shrill chirp and all the
raptors began to slowly advance towards the plane. Grant quickly looked into
the plane at the pilot whose eyes were bugged out at the sight of all the
raptors...
"Give me the gun." he ordered.
The pilot threw him the gun and the bullets.
Grant steadied the gun and fired into the throng of raptors. The gunshot
thundered all around them as Grant watched three of the raptors fall to the
ground, dead. As he quickly reloaded, the raptors around the three dead ones
sniffed their bodies and stared at each other. They looked back at Adam unsure
of what to do. Adam gave another shrill chirp and the raptors began to advance
again. Grant again steadied the gun and fired. Two more raptors fell to the
ground with agonized shrieks. The other raptors hesitated a little and then
kept on coming. Grant quickly tried to reload but he knew it was a losing
battle. The raptors were coming closer and closer and he knew there weren't
enough bullets to kill them all. He felt Ellie grab his arm and huddle against
him as the raptors began to ready themselves to strike...
Suddenly all the raptors stopped as a roar
pierced the air. They all turned and looked to their right as two gigantic
spinosaurusses emerged from the jungle, drawn by the gunshots and the scent of
the raptors blood. The raptors began to run back into the jungle in a frenzy as
the spinosaurusses ran after them. Taking advantage of the confusion, Grant and
Ellie flung themselves through the open door and into the plane. Closing the
door, they watched as Adam tried to keep the raptors from running off. He
chirped and hissed at them, ordering them to stay put, but the raptors were too
scared to obey....
"What are you doing?" He screamed
in frustration. "Stay here! Attack them! Attack..."
Adam stopped in mid sentence. He looked over
his shoulder and his eyes widened as he saw one of the spinosaurs standing over
him. He had been so busy trying to stop the raptors he hadn't paid attention to
it's approach. He screamed and tried to leap away but the spinosaur caught him
in mid leap and shook him around in his mouth shattering every bone in his
body...
Grant and Ellie watched as the spinosaurs
carried away the body of Adam and another raptor into the jungle to feed in
private. Grant nodded to the pilot who quickly started the plane and sped down
the runway and up into the air away from Isla Sorna. Once they were well away
from the island, Grant turned to Ellie and grinned.
"I think I've had enough of dinosaurs
for awhile." He said.
Ellie nodded.
"The only dinosaur I want to see now is
Barney." she said.
Grant chuckled as he leaned his head back
and relaxed.
*******************************
Grant sighed as he thumbed through the
morning paper. It had been two weeks since they had returned and he was glad to
be back to his boring routine. He began to read an article when the phone rang.
Dropping the paper, he crossed to the phone and picked up the receiver. He
smiled when he heard Ellie's voice...
"Hey El, how're things at home?"
He said lightly.
"Well...that's what I want to talk to
you about." she said.
Grant frowned and sat down in a chair next
to the phone.
"Why? Is something wrong? Is everyone
alright?" He asked, worried.
"No, no...nothing like that. It's Mark.
He and I have been having discussions and we've decided to get a divorce."
"A divorce?...why?"
Ellie sighed.
"We agreed it wasn't working out, Alan.
He doesn't really want me having a career. He'd rather I just be content as a
homemaker and I can't do that. I'd rather be out in the field doing some work
than just staying at home all the time."
"Out in the field?...You mean like
Jurassic Park?" Grant teased
Ellie laughed.
"No! Not that kind of fieldwork!
Something dead would appeal to me more!"
Grant chuckled
"I agree with you on that, El"
Ellie swallowed.
"There's another reason, though."
Grant's brow furrowed.
"There is? What?"
"I...I love you, Alan. I want to be
with you. Mark knows it and that's why he knows the marriage can't work."
Ellie said.
Grant’s heart caught in his throat. He had
never thought he'd hear those words from Ellie. But it was those three words he
had been waiting a lifetime to hear. He swallowed hard before speaking...
"I love you too, El. I want to be with
you too." he said softly
He smiled as he heard Ellie say "Oh,
Thank God" under her breath. He cleared his throat again.
"Would you like to go to dinner
tonight?"
"Alan, I'd love to!" Ellie said
happily.
"Eight O’clock then.” Grant said.
"Yes, that'll be perfect. I'll see you
then, Alan. Bye"
"Bye, El." Grant said as he hung
up the phone.
He sighed to himself and went to lay out his
best suit, humming happily as he envisioned Ellie and him setting out on the
next big adventure...marriage.
